Barcelona

I hadn't heard of the term modernista until arriving here. The Parisians call it Art nouveau. Catalunyuns call it Modernista's.
If you google the work of Gaudi you'll get the idea.
Staying in centre. With a balcony overlooking the river of people and the Market.
We shop for fresh food at the amazing  market in mornings.  Store it away. Go walking through the city and gape at the sights. Then home and cook up our goodies for dinner, which we eat at a balcony table .
It's nice.
This morning (after discovering that if we entered before 8 am we could spend the day inside for free) we checked out an old failed residential estate called Park Güell. Google it.
Enough said. Speechless.
Could fill many pages with pictures. But here is a sample. The first would are Gaudi buildings in town. Next a sample of the market. Then a non Gaudi modernista building. Finally the old failed residential estate. Next stop. Another cathedral.

  1. Fab Church Sagrada Famillia yep Antoni Gaudi breathtaking. Great toothpick Tapas look out for them. You pay by taking the empty toothpicks to the cashier at the end of your meal. Still enjoying your posts.

  2. Glad you're enjoying the posts coz I'm going to keep posting em. Didn't see the tapas. Probably because we close shop before dark and sleep. Then we like to get up before sun and run around the city whilst everyone else sleeps. Every tapas we've seen so far is about 8 euro a pop. That's about 12AUD. Bit of a tourist trap in most parts. Reminds me of Johnson St Byron Bay.

  3. The Spanish sleep late afternoon and come out to play after 8pm with their children😊
The real local Tapas are out of Barcelona. Seches is a seaside town 40 kms south of Barcelona we had great Tapas in a bar (toothpick style) there and yes our Tapas in Barcelona were different as they were served on plates and in bowls and were expensive.
