A monastery, a tower, and a custard tart

Metro to downtown then switch lines to downtown west
Then onto tram 15 to Belem. (Pronounced bay-leyng)
Took in the beautiful UNESCO site monastery of St Jeronomo.
Then coffee with custard tart.
Then on the the tower of Belem. Not decorative as it was a fort at the entrance to Lisbon harbour. The architecture and engineering is stunning though. It used to be in the middle of the river until the great earthquake changed the course of the river. Now it sits on the shore.
Oh yeah. The custard tart. Comparing Aussie custard tart to Lisbon custard tart is like comparing home brand tinned tuna to sashimi grade fresh tuna.
They two do not compare.
Perfect triathlon prep food.

14th century monastery survived the big quake.
The tower of Belem.
Delicious custard tart.

    1. Glad to hear you are enjoying. Custard tarts don't stay on plate long enough to get photo.
You can pay tourist prices for Portugese breakfast (coffee and tart) and will cost 6 euro. We discover the local haunts....old men and women standing outside chatting. A few tradesmen arguing over a carpark on the footpath. Menu for the day scribbled on paper and stuck on the window. A few cheap chairs and wobbly tables out front. We enter and walk past the front counters and into the backroom. Old wooden chairs and beautiful rooms tiled from floor to ceiling. Home. Coffee and warm oven fresh tart for 1.20. yum
