Coimbra

Pronounced Kweem Brah.
Home to the oldest University in Portugal. 900 years old. The town still buzzes with optimistic young students who are currently celebrating the end of university by staying up late and singing songs in teams. Boys team sings house anthem and Portugal is great blah blah and girls team sings in return house anthem Portugal is great and we can sing better than boys. The singing / chanting goes on through the night. Fuelled by copious amounts of alcohol. At 6 am they all stumble back to a room somewhere. This culminates next week with the burning of the robes. All the graduation robes and caps etc get burner, along with more alcohol fuelled singing. Jk Rowling spent time here. So imagine Hogwarts and the houses of griffindor etc. She was inspired by it.

I'll post some photos of this beautiful town later. We just got back from a magnificent swim in the Coimbra Olympic pool. Time for coffee and warm up in the sun.
